New York, New York #NYFW
I couldn’t resist keeping my eye on New York last week, if there is one fashion week that I would love to attend it would have to be in the big apple. I can’t help but paw over the hair, makeup and fashion trends, and there a few that caught my eye. In particular shows from Marc Jacobs and Francois Nars. Their spring/summer 2015 show sent their models out onto the catwalk with absolutely NO MAKE UP! Their faces had not one gram of makeup only moisturising lotion. Following a week of growing trend of glowing skin, barely-there foundation with just a slick of lip shine these designers took the plunge and left them clean! But interestingly for a designer who has his own, relatively new makeup line to promote, the only product used at all was a limited-edition Marc Jacobs nail lacquer in a deep burgundy shade applied to the toes. Throw away your make-up bag now.
You heard it here 1st, “The Flats” are here to stay!! After her show, Victoria Beckham was heard gushing over her obsession with one particular piece from her collection THE WINKLEPICKER! We’re used to seeing the 40 year old balancing in uber sexy, feminine stilettos, but next season they will be swapped for this androgynous shoe in every colour possible. What do you think of them?
When you see a repetitive hair style appearing on the catwalks of NY you know its the trend to follow. And plaits are the way forward! Suno and Peter Som’s models graced the catwalks with plaited hair and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe wore a tight asymmetric plait to the Diane Von Furstenberg show. According to some stylists of NY fashion week, plaits are for girls who want to be taken seriously.
The Bucket is back, and no, not the ice variety. The Bag. Yes, a true 90’s classic has made its comeback. On the catwalk we saw a more elegant, softer with drawstring-top shapes. According to some, Buckets are the new satchel. NOOOOOOOO!
So last week at The Topiary, we launched our big birthday competition. We turn 10 in October and what better way to celebrate a decade of business than to give away a years worth of hair cuts!! You can enter via our Facebook page by leaving us a birthday message. The winner will be drawn on October 12th, GOOD LUCK.
The last 7 days we have had an overwhelming response to our children’s pamper parties after we mentioned them in our last blog. These are available for children aged 5 and up and we cater for groups of 7/8 children. The kids can enjoy 1 & 1/2 hours of pure pampering or have a go at washing each others hair if they wish. Our trained staff will then plait, curl or straighten their hair, then they’ll move to the beauty room where they’ll have their nails painted and sparkly temporary tattoos put on if they wish. We encourage the birthday girl to bring their favourite cd with them so we can play the music of their choice throughout. And a party wouldn’t be complete without cake, nibbles, pink lemonade, balloons and party decorations. Party packages start at £15 per child.
Product of the week: Kevin Murphy ANGEL WASH & RINSE A shampoo and conditioner designed for fine, fragile or broken hair that is coloured or damaged. Milk proteins control frizzy hair that may have suffered from long term medication, chemical straightening or bleaching. Angel Wash gently cleanses while maximising colour retention and protects against free radicals, inhibits UVA oxidation, essential for repair of damaged hair. The weightless volumising conditioner increases cellular re-growth of the hair and scalp. It moisturises and protects fine, dry and coloured hair without weighing it down.
As mentioned previously Keely has now left the company and embarked on a different career path, we are now on the hunt for a senior stylist to join our team. Interested applicants should send their full CV to: hello@thetopiarysalon.co.uk
Have a great week
